Swarm Season News

Honey bees swarm to reduce overcrowding in their hives and to increase their numbers in nature. It is a natural survival tool that usually occurs in the Spring and early Summer. A honey bee swarm sometimes will "park" on a fence or tree limb while the scout bees locate their next home.

Usually, the swarm will leave the area in 1-3 days. If they stay longer, you may want to contact a beekeeper to remove them so they do not rehome somewhere they are unwanted. Local beekeepers who remove swarms in and around the Jacksonville community can be contacted through the Jacksonville Beekeepers Association at www.jaxbees.com.
